Eternal SBI Card vs Swiggy HDFC: Which Food-Delivery Credit Card Saves You More in 2026?
Eternal SBI Card vs Swiggy HDFC: Which Food-Delivery Credit Card Saves You More in 2026?
SBI Card and Zomato’s parent Eternal launched the Eternal SBI Card on 15 October 2026, with 10% off Zomato and District. HDFC has split its Swiggy card into two variants, BLCK at 10% and Ornge at 5%. The winner depends on which app you order from and how much you spend.
If your phone has both Zomato and Swiggy on the home screen, you have probably wondered whether a food-delivery credit card is worth carrying, and which one. Until this month the choice was simple: Swiggy had a popular HDFC co-brand, and Zomato had none worth talking about. On 15 October that changed, when SBI Card and Eternal, the company formerly called Zomato Limited, launched a card built around Zomato, Blinkit, District and Bistro.
At the same time, the Swiggy HDFC card most people know is being retired. Existing holders are being moved to one of two new variants, and the one you are moved to by default pays half the old rate on Swiggy. So this is not just Zomato versus Swiggy. It is a three-way choice, and the numbers shift depending on your monthly order bill.
Quick Summary
If you order mainly from Zomato, the Eternal SBI Card wins; if you order mainly from Swiggy and Instamart, Swiggy BLCK wins. Both pay 10% on their own apps, but Eternal’s monthly cap is higher at ₹2,000 against BLCK’s ₹1,500, and its fee is lower at ₹499 against ₹1,000. Swiggy Ornge, the default for migrated holders, pays only 5% on Swiggy. BLCK is stronger on groceries, paying 10% on Instamart, while Eternal gives 5% on most Blinkit items. Across all categories, BLCK’s maximum is ₹48,000 a year against Eternal’s ₹42,000.
What We Know
- SBI Card and Eternal announced the Eternal SBI Card on 15 October 2026; phased invitations began on 22 October.
- It gives 10% instant discounts on Zomato, District and Bistro, and 5% or 10% on Blinkit, capped at ₹2,000 a month combined.
- Swiggy’s official page lists BLCK at ₹1,000 and Ornge at ₹500 a year, with BLCK paying 10% on Swiggy.
- HDFC is migrating holders of the original Swiggy card to Ornge or BLCK, with Ornge as the default.
- Both co-brands credit or apply benefits automatically, with no points to redeem.
What Is Still Unclear
- How quickly Eternal SBI applications will open to everyone beyond the phased invitations.
- Whether Ornge’s ₹1,500 cap is shared between Swiggy and other online spends; Swiggy’s page is ambiguous.
- Reported annual fees for BLCK range from ₹1,000 to ₹1,500 across sources; Swiggy’s page lists ₹1,000.
- Whether a ₹249 minimum order applies to Eternal-app discounts; none has been reported so far.
Three Cards on the Menu, Not Two
The headline match is Eternal SBI versus Swiggy HDFC, but the Swiggy side now has two cards with very different value. Comparing Eternal with the old 10% Swiggy card, which you can no longer get, would give a misleading picture.
| Feature | Eternal SBI | Swiggy BLCK HDFC | Swiggy Ornge HDFC |
|---|---|---|---|
| Annual fee, before GST | ₹499 | ₹1,000 | ₹500 |
| Fee waiver | ₹2 lakh a year | ₹75,000 in 90 days, then ₹2 lakh | ₹1.5 lakh a year |
| Home app food delivery | 10% on Zomato | 10% on Swiggy | 5% on Swiggy |
| Quick commerce groceries | 5% on Blinkit | 10% on Instamart | 5% on Instamart |
| Home app monthly cap | ₹2,000 | ₹1,500 | ₹1,500, may be shared |
| Other partner or online spends | 5% at Uber, Urban Company, Apollo, ixigo; ₹1,000 cap | 5% at Amazon, Flipkart, Uber and more; ₹1,500 cap | 5%, within the ₹1,500 pool |
| All other spends | 1%, ₹500 cap | 1%, ₹1,000 cap | 1%, ₹1,000 cap |
| Welcome benefit | 6 months Zomato Gold | 3 months BLCK membership | 12 months Swiggy One |
| Maximum a year | ₹42,000 | ₹48,000 | ₹30,000 |
Maximum annual figures for the Swiggy cards are as stated on Swiggy’s official card page. The Eternal figure is our total of its three monthly caps: ₹2,000 plus ₹1,000 plus ₹500, multiplied by 12. Hitting any of these maximums needs very high spending in every category, so treat them as ceilings rather than expectations.
Instant Discount Versus Cashback: The Difference You Feel at Checkout
Eternal SBI applies its 10% as an instant discount at checkout on Zomato, District and Blinkit. You see the lower price before you pay, and according to the launch announcement the card discount stacks on top of platform offers. Swiggy’s HDFC cards pay cashback instead, credited to your card statement at the end of the billing cycle.
The economic value is the same per rupee, but the experience differs. An instant discount cannot be clawed back by a missed posting, and you know immediately whether the card worked. Cashback depends on Swiggy sharing the right merchant and terminal identifiers with HDFC, and SaveSage notes that some purchases may not qualify for that reason.
The small-order trap
Swiggy BLCK’s 10% applies only to orders of ₹249 or more, according to SaveSage’s review of the terms, and the original Swiggy card adopted the same floor from 17 April 2026. A ₹199 coffee or a ₹150 snack earns nothing. If much of your ordering is small, late-night top-ups, your real return will be noticeably lower than 10%. No similar floor has been reported for Eternal’s instant discount, though cashback transactions under ₹100 earn nothing.
How Much You Order Decides the Winner
The caps matter more than the headline rates. At moderate spending, Eternal and BLCK return exactly the same. Above ₹15,000 a month on the home app, BLCK stops paying while Eternal continues until ₹20,000.
| Monthly home-app spend | Eternal SBI | Swiggy BLCK | Swiggy Ornge |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹3,000 | ₹300 | ₹300 | ₹150 |
| ₹6,000 | ₹600 | ₹600 | ₹300 |
| ₹10,000 | ₹1,000 | ₹1,000 | ₹500 |
| ₹15,000 | ₹1,500 | ₹1,500 | ₹750 |
| ₹20,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹1,500 | ₹1,000 |
| ₹25,000 | ₹2,000 | ₹1,500 | ₹1,250 |
For most households spending under ₹15,000 a month on one app, the choice of card should follow the choice of app. Eternal’s higher cap only matters for very heavy users, and its cap is shared with Blinkit, so large grocery orders eat into the same ₹2,000.
The Grocery Twist: Blinkit at 5%, Instamart at 10%
For many families, quick-commerce groceries now cost more each month than restaurant delivery. Here the two co-brands differ sharply. Swiggy BLCK pays 10% on Instamart, within the same ₹1,500 Swiggy cap. Eternal SBI gives 10% only on Blinkit’s beauty and electronics categories, and 5% on other eligible Blinkit items, including groceries. Baby food, tobacco and precious-metal jewellery are excluded on Blinkit.
If your household splits spending between food delivery and groceries on the same platform, Swiggy BLCK’s uniform 10% across Food, Instamart and Dineout makes it the stronger choice. If you use Zomato for food and Blinkit for groceries, Eternal still gives you 10% on food and 5% on groceries, which beats Ornge on both.
A Real Household Month, Run Through All Three Cards
Worked example: the Mehra household
Each month the Mehras spend ₹6,000 on food delivery, ₹4,000 on quick-commerce groceries, ₹2,000 on cabs and ₹15,000 on other card spends. On Eternal SBI, with Zomato and Blinkit: ₹600 on food, ₹200 at 5% on groceries, ₹100 at 5% on Uber and ₹150 at 1% on other spends, a total of ₹1,050 a month or ₹12,600 a year. On Swiggy BLCK, with Swiggy and Instamart: ₹600 on food, ₹400 on Instamart, ₹100 on Uber as an online category and ₹150 on other spends, ₹1,250 a month or ₹15,000 a year. On Swiggy Ornge: ₹300 on food, ₹200 on Instamart, ₹100 on Uber and ₹150 on other spends, ₹750 a month or ₹9,000 a year. Their ₹3.24 lakh annual spend waives the fee on all three cards.
The ₹2,400 gap comes almost entirely from groceries. If the Mehras spent nothing on quick commerce, Eternal and BLCK would be roughly level. If they used Blinkit mostly for electronics and beauty, Eternal would close the gap. The result depends on the shape of your spending, not on which brand is more popular.
Holding the Old Swiggy HDFC Card? Read This Before You Are Moved
According to Monzy’s guide to the migration, HDFC is contacting holders of the original Swiggy card in stages. You can choose Ornge or BLCK; if you do not respond, you are moved to Ornge after at least 30 days’ notice. The old card stops working at the earliest of your first transaction on the new card, 60 days after the new card is issued, or the old card’s expiry.
The default matters. Ornge pays 5% on Swiggy, half the old card’s 10%. If you spend more than about ₹1,700 a month on Swiggy and Instamart, BLCK’s extra 5% is worth more than its higher fee, according to Monzy’s calculation. Lifetime-free holders keep Ornge free, while BLCK costs ₹1,000 a year from the start; paid holders get BLCK free for the first year.
Beyond Dinner: What Each Card Does for the Rest of Your Wallet
A food-delivery card is rarely anyone’s only card, but it is often the one used most often. So the benefits outside the home app matter, especially if this is your first or second credit card.
Eternal SBI keeps its partner list short
Outside Eternal’s own apps, the card pays 5% at a small set of named partners: Uber, Urban Company, Apollo 24|7 and ixigo, capped together at ₹1,000 a month. Everything else eligible earns 1%, capped at just ₹500 a month. Its forex markup is 3.5%, so it is a poor choice for spending abroad. It does include a fuel surcharge waiver of 1% on transactions from ₹500 to ₹4,000, up to ₹200 a cycle, and a monthly District movie offer that takes up to ₹200 off a second ticket.
Swiggy BLCK casts a wider online net
BLCK’s 5% online category covers a much longer list, including Amazon, Flipkart, Nykaa, Ajio, Croma, Netflix, BookMyShow, Ola, Uber and several travel sites, with its own ₹1,500 monthly cap. Its 1% on other spends is capped at ₹1,000, double Eternal’s. For someone who also shops online regularly, that makes BLCK the more useful everyday card, even before food. Note that a listed brand does not guarantee 5% if the transaction is coded under an unsupported merchant category.
Exclusions both cards share
Neither card pays anything on fuel, rent, wallet loads, gift cards, jewellery, education, gaming, government payments or EMI conversions. If you were hoping to route rent or school fees through a food card to reach the ₹2 lakh fee waiver, those payments will count toward spend thresholds only if the bank treats them as eligible, and they will earn no cashback either way.
Three Mistakes That Quietly Halve Your Food-Card Savings
The most common error is paying through the wrong route. Eternal’s instant discount applies when you pay with the card on the app; SmartSpend notes that UPI payments on RuPay variants earn 1% cashback rather than the app discount. Swiggy cashback similarly needs the card itself, not Swiggy Money or a linked wallet.
The second is ignoring the shared cap. Eternal’s ₹2,000 covers Zomato, District, Bistro and Blinkit together. A ₹15,000 electronics order on Blinkit at 10% uses ₹1,500 of it, leaving only ₹500 for food that month.
The third is letting the bank choose for you. Holders of the old Swiggy card who ignore HDFC’s migration notice land on Ornge by default and see their Swiggy return halve from 10% to 5% without noticing until the statement arrives.
How the Food-Card Race Got Here
Your Pick in Four Questions
- Which app gets most of your food orders? Match the card to it; cross-app benefits are only 1%.
- Do you buy groceries on Instamart or Blinkit? Instamart users gain more from BLCK’s 10%.
- Do you spend more than ₹15,000 a month on one app? Only then does Eternal’s higher ₹2,000 cap matter.
- Will you spend ₹2 lakh a year on the card? If not, compare the fees: ₹499 for Eternal against ₹1,000 for BLCK.
Fact box: why not hold both?
If your household uses both apps heavily, holding Eternal SBI and Swiggy BLCK together can make sense: each pays 10% on its own platform, up to ₹2,000 and ₹1,500 a month. Combined fees are ₹1,499 before GST, both waivable, and each card’s other-spend benefits are modest, so use each only where it is strongest.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which is better, Eternal SBI Card or Swiggy HDFC?
It depends on your main app. Eternal SBI gives 10% off Zomato with a ₹2,000 monthly cap for ₹499 a year. Swiggy BLCK gives 10% on Swiggy, Instamart and Dineout with a ₹1,500 cap for ₹1,000. Instamart users usually gain more from BLCK; Zomato users from Eternal.

₹499 plus GST, as both joining and renewal fee, with six months of Zomato Gold on joining. The renewal fee is reversed if you spend ₹2 lakh in a year.
Is the old Swiggy HDFC credit card discontinued?
Yes. HDFC is migrating holders to Swiggy Ornge or Swiggy BLCK. If you do not choose, you are moved to Ornge, which pays 5% on Swiggy instead of 10%.
Does Eternal SBI Card give cashback on Swiggy?
Only the general 1% on other eligible spends, capped at ₹500 a month. Its 10% discounts apply only to Eternal’s own apps: Zomato, District, Bistro and Blinkit.
How do I get the Eternal SBI Card?
Request early access through the Zomato, Blinkit or District app. SBI Card began sending phased invitations to apply from 22 October 2026.
Is there a minimum order for Swiggy BLCK cashback?
Yes. Reported terms require Swiggy orders of ₹249 or more to earn the 10% cashback. Swiggy Money wallet loads and Swiggy Liquor orders do not qualify.
Does Eternal SBI give 10% on all Blinkit orders?
No. It is 10% on beauty and electronics and 5% on other eligible Blinkit categories, including groceries. Baby food, tobacco and precious-metal jewellery are excluded.
Should I choose Swiggy BLCK or Swiggy Ornge?
BLCK pays 10% on Swiggy against Ornge’s 5%, but costs ₹1,000 a year against ₹500. If you spend more than about ₹1,700 a month on Swiggy and Instamart, BLCK usually returns more.
The Short Version
The Eternal SBI Card, launched on 15 October 2026, gives 10% instant discounts on Zomato, District and Bistro and 5% to 10% on Blinkit, capped at ₹2,000 a month, for ₹499 a year. HDFC’s Swiggy card is now two cards: BLCK pays 10% on Swiggy, Instamart and Dineout up to ₹1,500 a month for ₹1,000, and Ornge pays 5%. Choose by your main app. Zomato and Blinkit households should pick Eternal; Swiggy and Instamart households should pick BLCK. If you hold the old Swiggy card, choose your variant before HDFC defaults you to Ornge.
