A Delhi-based app developer, who purchased the rights to the JioHotstar domain and requested funding for his college fees from Reliance and Viacom18, has reportedly sold it to two siblings in Dubai. The domain has been acquired by 13-year-old Jainam Jain and 10-year-old Jivika Jain, who have updated the website with new information. “Even though we’re just kids, we believe that age is just a number when it comes to promoting kindness and positivity,” they stated in a message on the site. They used funds raised during their summer vacation in India to buy the JioHotstar domain from the app developer. “Our adventure began during our summer break when we traveled from Dubai to India for 50 unforgettable days,” they shared. “After returning to Dubai, we used part of our funds to help a young software developer from Delhi by purchasing this domain for him,” the note continued. They also mentioned the domain may be available for sale in the future. “By sharing our journey here, we hope to inspire others and keep the domain available for anyone interested in continuing this positive mission,” they added. Jainam and Jivika launched their YouTube channel in 2017, where they unbox toys and play with family and friends. Eventually, they changed their attention to science-related content. They are set to launch a podcast featuring several prominent celebrities soon. The anonymous app developer, referred to as “a dreamer,” allegedly sought to purchase the JioHotstar domain from Reliance and Viacom18 for over a crore to finance his executive MBA at the esteemed Cambridge University in the UK. However, Reliance and Viacom18 have not responded to his inquiry, according to news agency PTI. There has been no official confirmation from either company. The app developer reportedly acquired the domain name after learning about rumors of a potential merger between Jio Cinema and Hotstar in 2023.
