Indian scientists developing a solar-powered plane that can fly for 90 days:

  1. Innovative Development: Indian scientists are developing a solar-powered plane capable of flying continuously for up to 90 days.
  2. High-Altitude Platform (HAP): The plane, known as a High-Altitude Platform (HAP), is designed to operate at stratospheric levels, well above commercial airplanes.
  3. National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL): The project is spearheaded by the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) in Bengaluru.
  4. Successful Prototype: A smaller version of the plane has already been successfully flown for ten hours, demonstrating its potential.
  5. Multiple Applications: The HAP can be used for various purposes, including surveillance, beaming 5G waves, and providing battlefield communications.
  6. Strategic Advantage: During conflicts, HAPs can address strategic and tactical roles, such as Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR).
  7. Global Efforts: Similar efforts are underway worldwide, with the Airbus Zephyr being the only functional HAP currently, having demonstrated a 64-day continuous flight.
  8. Technological Milestone: The development of this solar-powered plane marks a significant technological milestone for India, enhancing its capabilities in renewable energy and aerospace.
  9. Future Plans: By 2027, NAL aims to build a full-scale version with a wingspan of under 30 meters, capable of carrying payloads weighing up to 15 kg.
  10. Economic and Strategic Benefits: The solar-powered plane is expected to be more cost-effective and versatile than traditional satellites, providing continuous monitoring and communication capabilities.
