(Bloomberg) — Amazon. com Inc. Jeff Bezos, the founder and owner of the Washington Post, stated that the newspaper’s choice to cease endorsing presidential candidates is a response to a “credibility gap” impacting the media sector. In an essay on the Post’s website, he mentioned, “Most people think the media is biased.” “Anyone who overlooks this is not paying much attention to what’s real.” Bezos also stated that the Post’s decision was not connected to former President Donald Trump’s meeting with executives from Blue Origin, another one of his companies, on the day the announcement was made. The meeting was arranged hastily and without informing Bezos. “I sighed when I learned about it, knowing it would give support to those trying to portray this as something other than a principled choice,” he stated. The publisher of The Post, William Lewis, made the announcement in October. 25 that the newspaper would stop taking sides in presidential elections, a practice it has followed consistently since 1978.
